Thursday, September 2nd, 2010Case Study: Murder?one Jurisdiction at a Time: the Case of Robert Ben Rhoades
Monday, May 24th, 2010The case of Robert Ben Rhoades is an excellent example of the type and nature of cases in which would provide critical services VICAP help and support. Rhoades is one of the most dangerous sex offenders and known serial killers and the United States considered. Some researchers believe is responsible for at least 50, but perhaps hundreds of deaths. However, he has the murder for which he is a life sentence has been condemned. Rhoades was a professional long-haul trucker, and his case clearly shows the complexity of a criminal predator who can actually enjoy defy law enforcement, the fragmentation of the efforts of law enforcement, separated and divorced from the data sources and methods Investigative incompatible. On 1 April 1990, Trooper Mike Miller, a highway patrolman in Arizona, a semi-trailer truck parked on the shoulder of the observed I-10. As Miller approached the vehicle itself, to help, he saw in the 18-Wheeler and observed jumped, naked, white woman in the cabin. A small horse and the flange type was was in the mouth of the terrified victims, chained to the truck. Also in the bunk Robert Ben Rhoades, was when they surprised by the advance of the captain who immediately left the truck and tried to convince Miller that nothing had happened. Rhoades said that the events that are found in the consensus and a private matter. While Miller has tried to sort the situation, he placed under arrest Rhoades, Rhoades when he was discovered in possession of a loaded. 25 caliber gun (Brandel, 1966). Rhoades has put the soldier, the vehicle and secured with a belt. When Miller had checked on the victim and returned to the patrol car, was able to get Rhoades, the belt and slide the hands handcuffed in front of him. Miller asked if Rhoades had handcuff key that was answered affirmatively Rhoades. Miller took the keys, Rhoades again bound behind his back and reached his belt, and stayed with him until backup support to the officers on the stage. was published after the terrified victim identified (later as Lisa Pennal), she tells her story of abduction and torture. She said she had accepted a ride with Rhoades in a cafe in Buckeye, Arizona. Although Pennal was difficult to interview and spoke in broken sentences, investigators learned of his temporary lifestyle and drug abuse today. The examiner noted that when she wore a skirt and shirt, slippers on her feet she wore only developed as a cartoon tiger. The victim said she was asleep to awaken the sleeper, as Rhoades was placed handcuffs on his wrists and ankles. She said, beaten with whips Rhoades band, a chain around his neck attached spring clips as her nipples and vagina. It is not known how long kept Pennal Lisa Rhoades had this torture chamber, but the injuries to her body, that several events of corporal punishment and torture has taken place. During this test, Rhoades said he had done this Pennal for girls and women 15 years. Although Rhoades was handcuffed and in custody, he remained calm. He served as the mental capacity of the victim and the investigator has tried to sympathize with him, as he described it to refer to as the aggressor in the case, on how much lizard. “Alva Busch Rhoades cited in the book Roadside Prey:” I can tell you, this girl is not playing with a full sentence, “Rhoades, laughing, as if someone had told a joke..” It is not too tightly packed giggled Rhoades “You do not mess around with women on the street. Not if you want to drop your cock, ok?… She wanted to go to bed…. I was on the anchor. She went back to bed. I said,” Go ahead. “She began to undress, and I said, ‘What the $% ^ & and I will” (1996, pp. 58-62). The victim, who was hysterical at times, showed signs of physical abuse and sexual abuse, accompanying his history of magic. Rhoades explanation began to fall apart, the investigators discovered large quantities of pornography bondage-type materials and sexual assault in his truck. Rhoades account has not been supported by the evidence. During the subsequent investigation were search warrants on the cab of the truck tractor and semi-residence at the Robert Ben Rhoades “in Houston, executed Texas. The research showed a briefcase with whips, handcuffs, spring clamps, a dildo, various items of clothing for women, different papers and some photos of a young white woman in different poses, both nude and partially clothed. There were Polaroid photographs of several women in the “convertible” cars, apparently taken from inside the cab of the truck that women in the past on the street. These photos were seized in the apartment Rhoades’ Houston. There were also photos of a particular victim (a girl) in the sleeping cabin of a truck driver, outdoors and in an abandoned barn structure. In this series of photographs, the victim was handcuffed, chained, and poses with a dildo and had the kind of spring clips attached to her nipples. The young people in the photographs has been identified since the fall of Robert Ben Rhoades has been concerned. Then, on 29 September 1990, the decomposed body of a young woman was in an abandoned barn near Greenville, Illinois found. The cause of death was strangulation by ligature established. The victim was later identified as 14-year-old Regina Walters. Walters has been reported as a runaway from Pasadena, Texas, about eight months before they were discovered remains. At the time of the first report of the missing persons, Walters had been with a man of 18 named Ricky Lee Jones. The two were hitchhiking in New Mexico. Ricky Lee Jones has not written as this has been resolved. Interestingly, investigators working on the case of Rhoades and researchers working in the Walters case, Texas and Illinois have each working independently of each other. Finally, by fax and national databases, they began working together. Unfortunately, Robert Ben Rhoades will remain a one-off episode, to 28 September 1991, when after the death of Regina Kay Walters was connected. There were no pictures of Ricky Lee Jones Rhoades collection, but it was a log entry in a notebook found in possession of Rhoades’ on his arrest, stating, “Ricky was a dead man” (Evidence, 1990). The police have also re- several pieces of clothing from the possession of Robert Walters Ben Rhoades (1990). With regard to the remark that Rhoades was “doing it for 15 years,” researchers examined more closely in their pleadings trucking. They discovered that the deadly truck from the shores of the Pacific Ocean, the east coast of New Jersey had gone. He has traveled specifically Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia and Florida ( Evidence, 1990). Suddenly, the large number of missing persons, unidentified bodies, and cases of unsolved homicides in each of these countries a new meaning. The police have begun to information on similar crimes, and victims more generous than at any time before the event exchanged. Since the scandal broke Rhoades, there were many missing persons and unsolved murders which were attributed to Rhoades, but he has been prosecuted for the death of Regina Walters. This episode of “unique”, while not forgotten, has a large workload Detective Susan Trammell joined, receive less attention than investigative leads cooled and the time passed. In the same period Rhoades travel set from one country to another. As the story progressed Rhoades, information about another victim was discovered named Shana Holt, from January 1990, which came in contact with Rhoades in a truck stop in San Bernardino, California. Shana Holt escaped Rhoades’ Torture reported the incident and discovered shocking to see the events that Trooper Miller. Holt was so frightened that if they faced the prospect Rhoades was on the investigation after the flight of his vehicle so that testify against him, they refused to cooperate further, and the case was dismissed. Others have been similar situations in the course of time discovered. Enforcement of the law in many parts of the United States had based criminal kidnapping and killing potential charges against Rhoades on comparisons and road transport. In each case, the various agencies at first thought they were a unique event that only their jurisdiction extends. It was only the latest chapter in the saga was written Rhoades, to recognize that each agency that his “unique case” was the work of a sadistic serial rapist and murderer was. to see if Rhoades helped law enforcement authorities in the U.S., in graphic detail, to the value of work, communicate and coordinate their efforts to solve difficult criminal cases. If better information and coordination has taken place, it would have substantially reduced the number of victims, the prey of Robert Ben Rhoades (Cooper & King, 2001) decreased. She disappeared 3rd February 1990 in Pasadena, Texas. She was only fourteen at the time, and my only daughter. At this time, the police have not yet brought to justice, the person who has done this for my child. Even if we do not live in Illinois, this case must remain open. Death No child should be abandoned. It could happen again. At that time, the police in Illinois has asked us to keep them from the media. We did that and much more. Just because you’re not one of us does not mean that we do not care. We have tried to find time for murderers of Regina. Please do not give up. And if it was one of your children? They could not know the rest there is someone out there loves you, someone took it and never thought that we do not love Regina, because she was very loved.
